The 2012 Lamborghini Estoque-A Joke?

For the Lamborghini fans out there, brace yourselves for the upcoming 2012 Estoque.  After years of casting around for a third model, the luxury car brand has decided that Manfred Fitzgerald, head of branding and design, has discovered a winner.

It is being coined as “the world’s first super sedan”, and it is dramatic. In its current concept form, it maintains the sleek lines Lamborghini is known for, but adds another set of doors.  It was revealed at the Paris Auto Show, and can certainly compete with exotic cars like the Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera, or Ferrari F430 Spider

The Estoque is the first real change in Lamborghini in years.  The company has played it relatively safe, sticking with the Murcielago and the more diminutive Gallardo models.  The name is derived from the ancient sword worn by bullfighters, which certainly seems appropriate based on its dagger-like aesthetics.

The 2012 Lamborghini Estoque will sport a 6496cc, 12 cylinder V12 engine, capable of a top speeds of around 212 miles per hour.  That is an admirable amount of speed, and I would like to see any sedan achieve th2012 Lamborghini Estoqueat!

It has a 6-speed manual transmission, so it is not for every driver.  The power produced travels through all four wheels, as is customary for a Lamborghini.  It is a mid-engine luxury car, featuring both a motor and a drivetrain located aft of the front axel line, which should create an impressive weight distribution.

Safety seems to come first with this Lambo, as it boasts 8 airbags, parking sensors, fog lamps, traction control, EBD, and of course ABS.

So while some may shake their head at such a drastically different Lambo, I may be among them, we must remember that this model (if it makes it to production) could fill an entirely new market niche.  It will be interesting to see how this pans out, but I can’t see people lining up for a 4-door Lamborghini rental.
