Andy Warhol’s Rolls Royce Hits Luxury Auction Block

Items created or owned by legendary pop artist Andy Warhol demand a price, as we will see again at Bonhams when his 1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow hits the luxury car auction block! The understated brown Rolls Royce is expected to fetch an obscene amount, and will be in good company because the 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom owned by screen goddess Marlene Dietrich will also be hitting the block that very day!

Andy Warhol's Rolls Royce

Andy Warhol’s Rolls Royce is a rather muted brown, quite a contrast to his vivid artwork!

Warhol’s paintings often sell for over $100 million dollars, though the Rolls Royce motorcar will likely go for less than a million (that is just my best guess). Warhol’s trusty Silver Shadow was sold by his relatives about a year after his death in 1987 and has only had two owners since that time. The car comes with a copy of the original New York certificate of title bearing Warhol’s name, which is a cool touch for any collector’s item. For interested parties, Bonhams will hold the auction at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, which is near Phoenix, Arizona, on January 19th.

Other notable Rolls Royce cars sold by Bonhams include:
•    A 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Ceremonial Victoria owned by the Maharaja of Mysore (Just 40/50 horsepower!)
•    A rare 1908 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Rio-des-Belges
•    A unique 1920 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Gentleman’s Roadster made for the heir of the Proctor family fortune

It will be utterly fascinating to see the price an exotic car like a Rolls owned by a famous figure like Warhol will demand at auction!
In the mean time, don’t miss our luxury rental cars in Chicago, Miami, New York and LA!
