The BMW 135i

BMW 135iIf you are an avid BMW fan, we urge you to get up from your computer, and head to the nearest BMW dealer to check out the 135i.  I can imagine myself maneuvering my sparkling new BMW 135i out of the dealership and thinking to myself, “I. am. Awesome.”  It is that moving.

This little number was expressly designed to attract United States buyers, and is actually the luxury car company’s second attempt at a rear-wheel drive premium compact car.  The initial effort occurred in the mid 90’s, with the 318i, which was an overpriced and under-functioning 4-cylinder hatchback.  The 318i was impacted by poor sales and stayed with us just a few brief years.

BMW has higher hopes for the 135i, which will be marketed worldwide, as a fuel-efficient, compact, yet still luxurious BMW. Similar to all 1-series BMW’s, the 135i is based on the underpinnings of the 3-series-featuring the same twin-turbo, direct-injected 3.0-liter in-line 6 cylinder of the 335i.

The 135i boasts 306 horsepower and 295 pounds per foot of torque with indiscernible lag.  If you are worried about speed, do not let the diminutive size fool you; the BMW 135i packs a punch.

Note that there will also be the option of a non-turbo version, the 128i, which will start around $30,000.  The BMW 135i is approximately $35,000.  Looking for something more upscale from the company?  Indulge in a luxury BMW rental South Beach style!
