While discovering ditched exotic sports cars is not unheard of, an abandoned Bugatti Veyron certainly is. It seems a Veyron was simply left and forgotten somewhere in Russia, leaving much speculation about how the mighty beast met with such a fate.

The sticker on the Bugatti Veyron was reported to read “Autolehmann”, a very successful dealership in the area where the abandoned car was discovered. It is rumored that the Veyron was involved in an accident back in 2013, when it was rear-ended by an Aston Martin. But was it actually cheaper to just ditch the Veyron rather than repair it, and does the dealership actually have infinite amounts of money? It is a 1938 Type 57C, which is quite a desirable era for collectors of the badge. While the award-winning Bugatti Veyron line and all of the special editions are arguably faster–the value of certain older models remains a bit higher than the new siblings and will only continue to hold their worth.

How It Is Made: The Bugatti Veyron

Now that the production run of 450 Bugatti Veyron supercars has come to a halt with the very last unit sold, let us take a look at how the car is made. With a price range starting at a cool million USD–some considerable steps are taken to ensure the perfect beast. How the 1,001 horsepower, 263+ mile per hour Bugatti Veyron monster is made:

  • The Veyron has a production process that is unique to the model, with many steps designed and engineered specifically for a prescribed and unprecedented result.
  • While some parts are made in Germany and elsewhere, the car is built in Volkswagen’s Salzgitter plant. It is among the largest factories on the planet, but the Veyron is handcrafted in but a small space.
  • The magic begins with the special 16-cylinder engine, which is a pair of V8 engines mated together.
  • Each titanium, aluminum and aerospace-grade stainless steel component is hand delivered in custom sealed containers to prevent damage.
  • The carbon fiber cockpit surrounds passengers for strong protection—which is important when you consider that just 14 bolts hold the front and rear of the hypercar together. Each bolt is hand crafted and takes up to 5 weeks to complete. With any hope, even Chuck Norris could not break one.
  • With so much screaming power, it takes a full 10 radiators to keep the Veyron cool. Each unit is meticulously Dyno tested and driven 300 miles to ensure success and safety before meeting their owners.
  • But how to make all that speed stop? The Veyron boasts handmade carbon ceramic brakes capable of withstanding up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. The brakes alone are no match for the car, however, so the rear wing activates to slow the car.

Time:

  • It takes a full week and a full force to make just one Bugatti Veyron supercar engine.
  • Aside from the many man-hours spent elsewhere on the assembly front, it takes 3 days to make the 250-part fuel tank.
  • Because no existing tires were a match for this monster–Michelin created some. They made a set for the road and one for the track, but that was not going to cut it for VW, who asked for a set capable of performing on both.
  • While a regular old tire can be made in a minute, it takes about an hour to make a Veyron tire…and far less to burn one up! Each set of wheels costs around $18k.
  • Overall: The Bugatti Veyron gets an impressive 3 miles per gallon and runs completely out of gas in 12 minutes. Hey, she is a thirsty lady.

RM Auctions sold another 1993 EB110 GT in 2014 for $317,000 in Monaco. This version is listed much higher, and could be an indicator of why she has failed to net a buyer. Less than 150 units of this model were made, and they were crafted back in an elegant and special era for the Bugatti brand. The era was the time of the Bugatti Automobili SpA, established in 1987 and admitting defeat in 1995 because it takes more than just talent to stay afloat while selling very expensive supercars in very limited runs—it takes a miracle. The Bugatti Automobili Spa era was started by Romano Artioli as a movement to restore the glory to the nameplate.
