Porsche Macan SUV Rolls Out Ahead of LA Auto Show

Porsche Macan SUV

Porsche selected the eve of the Los Angeles Auto Show to reveal the latest in the lineup: the Porsche Macan SUV. Based on the Audi Q5 platform, this little luxury SUV is packing in the power arena and offering three package options.

The Porsche Macan SUV will start rolling off the assembly line in 2014 as one of the more economical options.

There will be 3 versions of the Porsche Macan offered, all with V6 engines mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox:

  • The base will be the Porsche Macan S. This is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged crossover capable of hitting the 60-mile per hour mark in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 158. The optional Sport Chrono package will shave that down to 5.2 seconds.
  • Second is the Macan S Diesel model. It also has a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo but is powered by diesel fuel. This one hits the 60 mark in 6.3 seconds (6.1 with the Sport Chrono package). Max speed for the diesel version is 143 miles per hour.
  • The line-topper is the Porsche Macan Turbo. This is the most powerful, packing a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 kicking out 400 horses. It achieves the 0-60 sprint in 4.8 seconds, 4.6 with the Chrono package. Top speed is 165 miles per hour for this version.

Last Chance to Get Your Hands on a Porsche with a Manual Gearbox?

Porsche with a manual gearbox

The manual gearbox is being phased out by many automakers–including exotic sports car makers. The Porsche 911 997 GT3 could be the last Porsche with a manual gearbox. In the past, a manual gearbox was synonymous with proper driving and a fast car, but times they are changing gears. The next generation of the Porsche GT3 appeared in Geneva this year sporting everything but the manual option.

The next gen Porsche took center stage at the Geneva Motor Show this year and evoked rumblings of the missing manual.  read more

Porsche Exhibit Pulls into North Carolina

Porsche Exhibit

Porsche fans near the east coast can take in a unique Porsche exhibit. The “Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed” exhibit will be located at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. There are classic style Porsche cars, racing cars, celebrity cars and odd looking prototypes on display.

1958 Porsche Speedster

What visitors can expect to see when visiting the museum for the Porsche exhibit:

  • There are 22 glorious examples of Porsche cars from over the decades.
  • There is a 1938 Type 64 Berlin-Rom Racer.
  • A one-off 1989 Panamericana concept car with a zip-off top is a special sight. The Panamericana was a lavish gift to Ferry Porsche to mark his 80th birthday, and this show will mark its first visit stateside. While it was the only one produced, elements of its design are apparent in todays 911 line.
  • Celebrity Porsche cars are also taking the red carpet at the Seducing Speed show. Some examples include: Ralph Lauren’s 1988 Type 959, Steve McQueen’s 1958 Speedster and Janis Joplin’s 1965 Type 356C Cabriolet. Joplin’s loudly colored car is typically parked at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
  • Racing examples will also be gracing the show, including the Type 804 Formula One Porsche from 1962. This model boasts an intriguing design wherein the driver’s seat is essentially a cradle formed by the gas tank. Today’s engineers use carbon fiber and other lightweight materials to shave off weight and therefore increase speed, but we must hand it to the ingenuity of the past! Though, in the event of a crash, the driver would certainly be in hot water.

Joplin’s 1965 Type 356C Cabriolet illustrated her artistic side.

 The full details:

Those interested in attending can visit the North Carolina Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh. The show is running now and will remain through January the 20th, 2014. read more

Polished PR Shots of the Porsche LMP1 Racecar

Porsche LMP1

A few months back we saw a few difficult to analyze images of the next-generation of Porsche racing when some shots leaked of its LMP1 racer testing. Now the PR department appears to have polished up some shots of the Porsche LMP1 car to jumpstart the clamoring process. It is working. The racer will debut at an unknown time for its 2014 season.

Will Porsche’s new LMP1 prototype burn through competition on the racing circuit? The team has high hopes and intends to go in full-throttle.

The shiny new professional shots show that the Porsche LMP1 is still coated in camo. The veiled disguise does little to hide the racer’s attributes, which include a sharply aerodynamic body and elongated form. It appears that Audi has inspired the tail lamps, which are vertically mounted ultra-thin LEDs located on the tips of the rear wing. The head lamps are the Porsche preferred four-bundle look. read more

Angry Wife Crashes Her Porsche into Hubby’s Maserati

women crashing cars

Recently in China two luxury vehicles became the victims of a domestic dispute. An angry wife reportedly tailed her husband around the streets of Chongquing, ending the journey by planting her canary yellow Porsche Cayenne Turbo into back of her husband’s burgundy Maserati Quattroporte. I would divorce this woman on principle alone…or downgrade her to a Ford Festiva. On the other hand, women crashing cars is typically entertaining for those uninvolved (those without injury, obviously).  read more

Have You Seen the RUF CTR-3 Supercar?

Contrary to the name, there is nothing rough about this supercar. The RUF CTR-3 is a dazzling specimen of luxury meets muscle, culminating into one of the most unique sports cars available. Many have not heard of RUF, often confusing it with Porsche. This confusion is quite understandable, as RUF vehicles are made from unmarked Porsche bodies. The small German specialty automotive company also restores classic Porsche and RUF cars.

RUF launched the CTR-3 model in 2007. It has only sold 25 units since that time, recently to fashion mogul Ralph Lauren, pictured below in his car. read more

MarioKart Has Nothing on Porsche: $900 Pedal Car

Porsche Pedal Car

If you feel your child could benefit from activities other than video games, this may be the solution: the Go-Kart Porsche Pedal Car. This souped-down racer is intended for ages 5-8 and packs a pair of pedals that allow the child to determine the horsepower (Think Flintstones). The kiddo Porsche is $900, which is more affordable than some swanky baby carriages. We are looking at you, Aston Martin.

The $900 plastic Porsche is less painfully priced than Ferrari’s tyke fare

The Go-Kart Porsche Pedal Car boasts a slick orange and black racing style coat. Porsche will fulfill each order at the Porsche Design Studio in Austria, crafting a metal frame, adjustable seat, and air-filled tires. When I said it was intended for ages 5-8, that also means the child must be less than 100 lbs. My 7-year-old boy is almost as tall as me and would completely annihilate this investment. read more
