Fashion Gold on Lincoln Road South Beach Miami

A  luxury clothing retail store worth shopping on Lincoln Road is Alchemist. Alchemist is one of the select few retail store with high-end designer labels worth looking at. The store is chic and, thankfully, in touch with New York fashion. Alchemist features Givenchy, Alexander Wang, Jil Sander, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Dior Homme, Herve Leger, The Row, Luis Morais, Chloe, Libertine and others. The store is a one-stop shop for women and men’s gear, footwear and accessories. Currently, Alchemist has the Delfina Delettrez jewelry collection, pretty priceless considering the rest of her collection sits in the Louvre.

The store has a chilled-out, airy feel, complete with couch and flat screen t.v’s in the fitting rooms. You will get what you pay for, which in this case is a good thing. From vintage 80s Chanel jewelry to sexy swimwear, Alchemist is on point. Alchemist is a rare find on Lincoln Road, where it’s possible to spend a fortune on garbage. A good portion of clothing stores on Lincoln carry knock-offs, Ed Hardy bejeweled crap and dated fashion, it’s pretty pathetic. If you don’t have an eye for fashion then be very careful on Lincoln or just go to Alchemist. The science of Alchemy is to convert base metals into gold, Alchemist is just fashion gold.

The Most Expensive Suit in the World

Holland & Sherry, the respected fabric and cloth firm was founded in Scotland in 1836. Suffice to say the firm has come a very long way, Holland & Sherry is offering one of the most expensive suits in the world at $50,000. What makes this suit so expensive is the luxurious material its made from. The world’s first 100% worsted spun Vicuna fabric. Here is the education part, Vicuna fabric is made from the wool of the wild Vicuna which is a relative of the llama. Vicuna live high atop the Andes Mountain range in Peru and Boliva. The Vicuna can only be shorn every three years and produce a puny amount of fine wool at that. Thus, the fabric is one of the most expensive in the world at $4,000 per yard.

Holland & Sherry took it upon themselves to gather the exclusive wool for the last five years, plus, another year and a half to develop the wool into useable cloth. The Vicuna fabric is finer then cashmere and the firm has about enough to make only 18 suits. Clients interested in the world’s first 100% worsted spun Vicuna suit have a limited color palette of f black, midnight or natural to choose from. If you feel constricted by ordinary suits or just hate suits in general, you may want to get yourself into some Vicuna. Think of a Vicuna suit more as pajamas or broken in jeans that are office and nightlife approprate. That is if you can afford to dress like a king, the King of Morocco was first to place his order with Holland & Sherry.

Do Your Thing Tom Ford

In a state of economic panic, major department stores are reducing overhead and cutting prices. Macy’s is feeling the fallout and plans to eliminate about 7,000 jobs over the next couple months, that is four percent of the company workforce. Macy’s will be closing 11 stores across the country. And right behind is Saks Fifth Avenue which is slated to cut 1,100 jobs and Neiman Marcus with 375 jobs. The unemployment rate is way high and people are suffering. Well, some people are suffering, Tom Ford is not suffering nor does he sympathize.

The popular menswear designer who once offered feather-scrap jeans at Gucci for $3,000, is going his own way. Tom Ford for Tom Ford is now offering a pair of Japanese selvedge denim jeans for $990. The front button is plated with 18-carat gold and the pockets are lined in silk. On the back, merely a straight line stitched across each pocket and a small black label. For which the label reads TF001 for the Tom Ford boot, or TF002 for the straight-leg cut. We heart Tom Ford’s understated designs and in your face approach. Walking about with a huge label on your shirt is new money passe, you shouldn’t look expensive, you should feel it. Ford is about old world money, sophistication, and exclusivity. Exclusivity is luxury and Tom Ford is a luxury icon. Tom Ford if you make it, they will come even in this economy.  Think Tom Ford jeans are insane? That’s just because you can’t afford them. Do your thing Tom Ford!

Label Heinous: The Balmain Jeans

Apparently the company Konquest  Clothing put out a pair of $10,000 diamond-studded jeans. Now the clothing retail company Luisaviaroma has put out an $8,710 pair of jeans. Luisaviaroma, focused towards meeting the fashion needs of the luxury retail market is trying to sell the Balmain jean. The Balmain jeans are covered with Balmain ankhs on the right leg from the lower end of the pocket, extending down to the knee. No word on what type of precious stones were used to embroider the jeans and frankly we don’t care. The jeans are absolutely heinous and we wouldn’t be caught dead in them, or around anybody wearing the Balmain jeans. In all honestly, if you were our friend and you walked out in these pants then you wouldn’t be our friend anymore. We apologize if we hurt anyone’s feelings but honestly if you are responsible for these beadazzled jeans then quit now, this is not your life calling. We want to save you from fashion suicide, spend eight grand on bottles and a table for the night in some remote club. Or burn the eight grand because that would be money more wisely spent.

Don’t Let Christian Audigier Touch Anything

The tuning company Edo Competition has pulled out all the stops to produce the fastest Lamborghini ever made. Edo Competition has transformed the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 into a limited edition Edo LP 710 Audigier.  The reconstructed Lamborghini has new aerodynamics, wheels, tires and a new exhaust. Based on the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640, the LP 710 features a stainless steel high performance exhaust system and 19-inch light alloy wheels. The revamped 6.5L V12 engine brings 710hp of power and 700Nm of torque. Thrusting the Edo LP 710 Audigier from zero to 62mph in 3.2 seconds and reaching 124mph in under 10 seconds.Furthurmore a top clocked speed of 223.7mph. The four-wheel drive system was taken out to save 88lbs and new new cylinder heads and an adjustable rear wing added.

What we can’t understand for the life of us is why Edo teamed up with Christian Audigier. Christian Audigier is over and it’s time to move on, period. Edo Competition basically took a gorgeous Lamborghini Murcielago after market, made it fierce and then let Christian Audigier deface it. Audigier airbrushed skulls and wings all over the outside, then embroidered the same crap on the inside. Turning the Edo LP 710 into a tasteless eyesore. Seriously please don’t let Christian Audigier touch anything else upmarket because he will destroy it with glitter and skulls. His clothing was hot for a second but after seeing the same nauseating skulls over and over and over again, it’s enough. Come up with something new already or peace out guy.

Prada 2009 Spring/Summer Collection Campaign

Christmas is over, New Years is almost here so lets get to spring. The first photos of Prada’s upcoming Spring/Summer 2009 collection have just been released. Shot by top fashion photographer Steven Meisel who just recently finished shooting Madonna for a Louis Vuitton campaign.

The Prada garb is front and center. The models Nimue Smit, Giedre Dukauskaite, Sigrid Agren, Toni Garrn, Katrin Thormann, Viktoriya Sasonkina, and Ymre Stiekema have their heads turned away from the camera. The shots look fresh, chic and pretty. It’s a new take on Spring from Prada and we should see more this February at Bryant Park. It was a slow luxury news week, what can we say? Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah!
