World Cup Sports Update

So the FIFA World Cup has hardly gone as expected during the first round. The vaunted soccer nations from Europe, including defending champions, Italy as well as England and Germany have struggled badly.

Spain, reigning European champions, suffered a stunning opening loss to tiny Switzerland, although they looked better in their second game. Portugal also struggled in their opener but then blasted an unbelievable seven goals into the North Korean net in a lopsided win in their second game.

Offshore Powerboat Challenge at Sunny Isles Beach

Offshore Powerboat Races Sunny IslesThis weekend Sunny Isles beach, a few miles north of South Beach, became the arena for the Offshore Powerboat Challenge, hosted by Offshore Events.  So I walked across the street from my condo to watch the races!

The event was held June 10th-13th to celebrate the history of Miami as the birthplace for open ocean racing and high performance manufacturing.  Sunny Isles was selected to serve as the venue because we have a plethora of luxury condos, hotels, restaurants, beaches and parks to accommodate the crowds.  Sunny Isles is also centrally located, a quick trip to both Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Attention Sportsfans, Celtics vs. Lakers!

It’s the best and longest-running rivalry in professional basketball and it’s on again!

The defending NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, will meet the Boston Celtics in this year’s championship series, setting up a rematch of their battle for the title two years ago, when Boston won it all.

The Lakers booked their spot in the 2010 Finals by beating out the Phoenix Suns in 6 games, clinching with a 111-103 victory on the weekend, helped by Kobe Bryant’s 37 points. Boston reached the big stage by knocking out the Orlando Magic, also in six games.

Well, it seems the NFL’s Miami Dolphins went fishing and they’ve hooked a big one!

The Dolphins have acquired one of the top pass receivers in the league in Brandon Marshall, who was traded from the Denver Broncos for two draft picks, and he will now bring his considerable talents to Miami’s sunny shores.  And he will be paid handsomely while in South Florida, having talked the Dolphins into a 4-year contract worth 47.5 million dollars.  It makes Marshall the highest-paid receiver in the NFL (That should send the reDolphins New Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall al estate agents and car dealers in the Miami area into buzz mode, knowing a new big fish will soon be in these waters, looking for a home and a set of wheels).
