A Ferrari SUV? Not Happening

Some auto aficionados feel that the Stuttgart shield was tarnished a bit by the introduction of the Porsche Cayenne and the Panamera. Apparently, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is among those sharing that opinion, as he has announced that a Ferrari SUV will not be happening!

Not only did he announce that there would be no Ferrari SUV, he said there would be no luxury sedan attempt, either. So…how does he explain the Ferrari FF hatchback?

I am not underselling the success of Porsche’s SUV fleet. Other brands saw the opportunity to expand into other markets and cashed in with their own luxury SUV models…I am looking at you, Maserati, Lamborghini and Bentley. There is supposed to be a Ferrari powerplant in the Maserati SUV…a nice nod to the prancing horsepower.

While there is nothing wrong with the ingenuity to offer versatility, the Prancing Horse shall remain intact. For the time being at least, Ferrari fully intends to continue its path as a mad manufacturer of high-performance sports cars, convertibles, coupes, racecars and uhm…hatchbacks.

Marchionne feels that the history of the brand must not be diluted, stating: "The uniqueness of that brand cannot be minimized and so we are very, very careful."
