Honda P-NUT Cracks Shell at 2009 LA Auto Show

Did the realm of hybrid cars suddenly take a turn for the worst?  You be the judge. Meet the Honda P-NUT, a concept Honda that is just, well, nuts.

The Personal-Neo Urban Transport (P-NUT) features well-defined sloping angles, and actually succeeds in resembling its namesake, a peanut.

It was unveiled live at the 2009 LA Auto Show, though is not quite ready for production, but rather, provides a provocative preview of Honda’s future fleet of green friendly cars to go nuts over.  The P-NUT is quite futuristic, and may pull off the part of sophisticated eco-friendly city coupe.

The concept’s inspiration centers on the need to reduce carbon footprints, while simultaneously solving space issues within the confines of major cities.  Down to specs.

The packaging concept integrates a central driving position, allowing for optimal visibility, made possible by a rear-powertrain layout.  The windshield serves as a heads-up display for the navigation system and the back-up camera.

The interior is shockingly spacious, and fully functional for a city car.  There are rear-seating areas that fold up, allowing for maximum storage space when needed.
The modular rear engine bay is designed to accommodate a variety of propulsion potentials, including a conventional small displacement internal combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.

Our guess is that these city-slickers will be smart most of the year, and then be itching for an exotic rental car when vacation time rolls around!
