Horsepower, Meet Green Power-Luxury Car Makers Get Sappy

Environmentally Friendly Luxury CarsWhile power and performance are still key components in the realm of luxury car designs, there is an obvious and notable trend developing toward a more environmentally conscious luxury car.

It would seem that the leading three luxury brands-BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz are transitioning from a power war to a green one.  The power trio are squaring-off in what appears to be a fuel economy battle, which is a positive and forward-thinking endeavor embraced by greenies everywhere.

In this race for the cause, horsepower is giving way slightly (very slightly-don’t panic) to green power.  Environmental impact is an issue on the minds of many businesses worldwide, and with vehicles being a major component affecting it-it is a welcome challenge.  Engineering teams are strategically finding ways to reduce environmental impact without sacrificing the power that exotic car lovers crave.

Contender BMW was the first to develop a stop-smart system that automatically shuts the engine off when the car is stationary.  Another bragging right for the brand is that it has delivered fuel economy improvements of approximately 16 percent, a figure that is more than its competitors combined-leaving them green with envy.  Although it should be noted that these figures do not include recent arrivals like the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Equally impressive, Audi can stake its claim to the most fuel-efficient luxury car available on the market with its A3 TDie.  The A3 TDie uses just 4.5 liters per 100 km, placing it on the right road to environmental nirvana.
