Twitter has been blowing up with news about Jaycee Dugard, the young woman who was held captive for 18 years and forced to bear two children fathered by her captor, Phillip Garrido.  See video at bottom of this post.

Jaycee Dugard, then & now

Celebrities have taken a personal interest in her story following her first interview, where she spoke openly about her harrowing experience. Celebs took to Twitter to express their feelings about what happened to young Jaycee Dugard, held from age 11 to age 29 in a backyard compound.  The compound has been described as ‘hiding in plain sight’.

Oprah Winfrey: "Failure after failure, neglect in the Jaycee Dugard case sickening. This ought to be a wake up call for the parole system … Don’t we love Jaycee’s resilience? She is remarkable. Much to teach us all. Have pre-ordered the book."

Last summer, the California Legislature approved a $20 million settlement for Jaycee Dugard.  The state of California determined that authorities failed to properly supervise Phillip Garrido, who was on parole for rape and is currently in jail and charged with Dugard’s kidnapping.  Dugard’s new memoir of her experience, "A Stolen Life" was released on Tuesday.
