LaFerrari Inspires Next Maserati Supercar?

The Enzo successor unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, LaFerrari, seems to have left an inspired Maserati singing along. Rumor has it that Maserati is feverishly planning its next supercar, to be loosely based on the aggressive LaFerrari.

Will Maserati produce a LaFerrari-based flagship supercar?

If Maserati is indeed gearing up to build a new hypercar based on the bones of LaFerrari, what can we expect? Some think it will be a blend of the MC12 and LaFerrari, with the suspension, chassis and electrical systems of Ferrari, but not the hybrid system. The body would probably be a unique carbon fiber creation, and it is never a challenge to recognize a Maserati.

The MC12 emerged in 2004. It was based on the Ferrari Enzo, just like LaFerrari. While the MC12 did not have as many horses as the Enzo, it did hold onto the lap record at Top Gear UK for a while.

Some have guessed that the new Maserati may utilize a detuned version of the 6.3-liter V12 found in the LaFerrari or wedge a potent 3.8-liter V8. The overall details are, of course, quite scarce at this juncture for the rumored LaMaserati. Let us all hope it will not carry that horrid name.

Just 50 examples of the Maserati MC12 were created, each boasting a $775,000 price tag.

Overall, let us hope these premature murmurings hold some truth, because a 900-horsepower Maserati beast would certainly be welcome! That would place it up there with the McLaren P1 and likely a price tag on par with a Bugatti Veyron. Stay tuned, we will all know more by the Frankfurt Show.
