One-off Lamborghini Concept S to be Auctioned at RM Sotheby’s

A rare example of Lamborghini’s ability to think outside the chassis will be up for grabs this August through RM Sotheby’s: The one-off Lamborghini Concept S car. The car is a dramatic slice of what the Lamborghini Gallardo is capable of, featuring two cockpits, divided and with an open top layout–much like the Lamborghini Aventador Flying J model.

The Lamborghini Concept S proved that the Gallardo was not just a predictable machine but was a machine capable of reinventing its form time and again. Perhaps that is why the Gallardo served as the flagship model for so many decades.

The Lamborghini Concept S at a glance:

  • Designed by Luc Donckerwolke, this concept made its debut at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show
  • Chassis 001 packs a 5.0-liter V10 engine producing 500 horsepower
  • 2-door roadster body style with dynamic separated cockpit, called “sauté-vent” windscreens
  • 4×4 on-demand system engages the front automatically in the event that the rear slips. Semi-automated 6-speed transmission
  • Total curb weight is 3,200 pounds that can be catapulted from not to 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds and reach 100 miles per hour by 4.3 seconds. Top speed is an estimated 202 miles per hour.

The Lamborghini Concept S Backstory

A limited production run was planned for the Lamborghini Concept S, though this ended up being the only example crafted. It has since been kept by a single owner and has been shown at many exotic vehicle gatherings, including Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It is fully operational and street legal with just 180 kilometers on the odometer. RM Sotheby’s estimates that the Concept S will change hands for $2-$4 million dollars on November 18th, 2015 in Manhattan. It will be the first car to hit the block in an event featuring 30 illustrious lots.
