Mercedes-Benz Unveils Plans for Small Coupe, Crossover

Mercedes-Benz has communicated plans to unleash a smaller sized luxury coupe and crossover SUV to the U.S. market, but will these models be embraced by the luxury car market and exotic rental car industry?  The area of green luxury and luxury hybrid cars seems to be quite gray.

The luxury brand plans to introduce the diminutive luxury coupe and Mercedes crossover SUV to the U.S. market within three years.  These innovations from Mercedes will be the first since the fuel-cell B-Class crossover, named the F-Cell, which is available in limited numbers.

Luxury auto brands have touted smaller and greener cars and SUVs before, and they can be a bit slow to catch on.  While the Prius achieved phenomenal success, even among celebrities, other brands have been snubbed, including the Cadillac Cimarron and Catera, both of which indicated that the company should focus on the popular Escalade and Cadillac Escalade rentals.  Will Mercedes-Benz fare better on their green path to the future?

Rumors speculate that a new Mercedes convertible, smaller sized, of course, may also be in the cards.  It will be interesting to see what kind of hand the brand is dealt.
