A Manual Gearbox for the Next Porsche 911 GT3 RS?

With many exotic sports car companies phasing out the manual transmission, any rumor of revival is worth repeating. Do not get too excited–as it is just a rumor, but some say that the next-gen Porsche 911 GT3 RS could offer a manual transmission option.

Will the next Porsche 911 GT3 boast 3 glorious pedals?

The point of owning an exotic sports car is two-fold: To show it off and to drive the hell out of it. While the latest automated transmissions do shift seamlessly in milliseconds and prevent driver-induced damage, they lack that good old-fashioned hands-on driving experience we all lust for. There is just nothing like being in total control of your stable of horses while white knuckling around a steep embankment turn …or local grocery parking lot. It’s whatever.

That said, let’s explore why the rumor may or may not hold weight. It is widely reported that the next Porsche 911 GT3 RS will pack the paddle shift PDK only, as the company has invested so many resources touting it. But on the other side of this argument are the hopeful souls out there who still hold faith in the marketing genius behind Porsche, hoping that they will see it as an opportunity to be among the few luxury brands still offering the manual grip.

While it is certainly true that offering various transmission options does cost a bit more, it is possible for that to end up being a beautiful thing when buyers shell out for it. I would present all of my banking information and half of my family for a manual supercar. Are you paying attention, Porsche?
