On November 30th, 2013, actor Paul Walker was a passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT driven by longtime friend Roger Rodas. The sports car raced into a light pole and a tree before bursting into flames, claiming the lives of both young men. Nearly two weeks later, the aftermath has left hearts burning across the world.
Fiery Porsche Carrera GT crash claims the life of “Fast and Furious” actor Paul Walker (40) and driver Roger Rodas (38).
The driver of the fatal Porsche crash, Roger Rodas, was a long-time friend and financial adviser to Walker. Rodas was also a competitor in the Pirelli World Challenge and other racing events. Rodas and Walker were enjoying a spin in the sports car in Santa Clarita, California at time of the accident.
Nothing remained of the Porsche following the tragic accident. Fans and loved ones transformed the site into a memorial following the crash.
The duo first met at a racing event where Walker noticed Rodas was driving a Porsche GT3 that he used to own. From that point on, a very cool friendship developed. They raced in a Pro-Am 25-hour endurance race and eventually founded a race shop together called ‘Always Evolving’. The racing shop naturally evolved into an all-out racing team with Rodas as the head.
The dynamic friendship and accomplishments shared by Walker and Rodas are amazing and I was very saddened to hear of two young lives cut so short. It is a testament to how loved these men were to see the outpouring of love and support around the world. Walker is survived by a 15-year-old daughter and Rodas by a wife and two children.
Walker was in the process of filming the 7th installment of the popular films “Fast and the Furious” at the time of his death. Production has shut down as they try to figure out how to move forward without their racy star.
Friend and Fast and Furious co-star Vin Diesel was devastated by the news.
