Doha is so far-removed from…well…everything, that it has essentially morphed into its very own upscale planet, complete with all things luxurious and enviable. While you may have never heard of ‘Qatar’, let alone ‘Doha’, you have heard of Rolls Royce, and the Doha location now boasts a perfectly preserved 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost on display!

The rare and respected 1911 Silver Ghost is not only vintage, it comes from an impressive lineup of owners! It was originally commissioned for the Delhi Durbar to celebrate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. Next it was owned by Krishna Raja Wodeyar IV, Maharaja of Mysore (why does the word Mysore remind me of social networking site ‘Myspace’).
The remaining years and owners are listed below to curb confusion:
• In the early 1960s it belonged to Victor Barclay, son of Jack Barclay who founded the famous sales agency for Rolls Royce
• James Leake purchased it in 1965 from Sotheby’s luxury car auction (this may have been the first-ever luxury car auction held, according to reports)
• Over 20 years later, in 1987, Leake sold the Ghost to Tom Barrett of Barrett-Jackson
• Barrett sold it in 1993 to Raymond Lutgert
• Lutgert then sold it to Ghost aficionado Millard Newman
• Newman sold it to Richard Solove. Solove had a collection of Rolls Royce Ghost models that included each year from 1907-1915, quite impressive
• Solove sold the collection it in 2007, and the 1911 Ghost joined the collection of the late John M O’Quinn
• In 2011, the vintage relic was purchased by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Doha, where it currently stands as a timeless testament to the history of the luxury brand
