Top Gear Bestows Coveted “Luxury Car of the Year” Accolade to Fisker Karma

The auto aficionados at Top Gear have awarded this year’s ‘Luxury Car of the Year’ slot to the Fisker Karma, a choice that earns environmental karma! With absolutely everything going for this car it is no wonder Leonardo DiCaprio’s Fisker Karma created such a sensation.

So why did the fellas at Top Gear, celebrities and the rest of the world fall so hard for the Karma? You may find it a bit shocking or even appalling that the Karma features zero fine leather, according to editor Charlie Turner of BBC Top Gear,

“It’s the top-of-the-line spec that features no leather, just textiles and reclaimed wood. And it’s more convincing than it sounds, managing to look, feel and smell premium without any cow peel in it at all.”
I love that he calls leather “cow peel”…nearly as much as I am hooked on the lovely British accents of the Top Gear cast.

To refresh the memory, the Fisker Karma is a luxury hybrid car that features Fisker’s innovative Q-DRIVE system. This system is comprised of 2 electric motors powered by a lithium-ion battery pack, each producing 201 horses. A generator is then attached to a 2.0-liter Ecotec direct-injection gasoline-sipping GM engine. The Karma can travel up to 50 miles in electric mode and 300 miles with the gasoline backup. Other hybrids are green with envy because not only is the Karma sporty and cool like a Lamborghini, it nails the 0-60 mark in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 125 mph!
