Recently launched at the Organization of African Unity, the Saroukh el-Jamahiriya, or Libyan Rocket, was designed by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. This car is rumored to potentially be the safest car in the world.
While there is no solid proof to back-up the claim of being the safest car, the vehicle was created by Gaddafi in response to the high numbers of people injured and killed every year on the roads of Libya. Gaddafi is the Leader and Guide of the Revolution, and in designing a safer vehicle for Libyans; he is taking an active role in addressing important issues faced by the people.
Soroukh el-Jamahiriya seats five comfortably, and features a 230 horsepower V6 engine. Interestingly, the car has the nose and tail of a rocket, and it is not an altogether terrible look. The aesthetics of the unique safety car are pleasing, and kind of reminiscent of what regular sedans may look like in the future.
The safety rocket has airbags of course, but what is most interesting is the “Electronic defense system”, which we have no idea what it is comprised of as of yet. There are also collapsible bumpers intended to aid in the event of a crash.
The Rocket is set to be produced in Tripoli, Libya’s capital. A factory is currently being constructed for the purpose of producing the safety cars. While Volvo is most likely not concerned and this is a far cry from a luxury car rental, kudos to Colonel Gaddafi for his dedicated and unique response to the safety issues faced by Libyans.
