Fisker Firing Out 2nd Luxury Hybrid Car

On the heels of much success with its first luxury hybrid car, the Fisker Karma, the brand is already pushing the pedal down to produce another hybrid! Previously I shared that Leonardo DiCaprio ordered first Fisker Karma hybrid, and it will be interesting to see if he orders a second, or just remains on his green path with the original.

Fisker has already begun promoting the next luxury hybrid car, dubbed “Project Nina”, which will feature BMW engines and other parts. BMW has agreed to provide a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, with the potential to ship up to 10,000 engines annually if Project Nina goes as anticipated. We will not have to wait long for further details, as this project is set for 2012 production and 2013 deliveries!

Nina will be categorized as a mid-size premium sedan, according to Fisker, and will feature the company’s EVer technology (electric vehicle with extended range). True to hybrid form, it will have an electric-only range of around 50 miles, with gas kicking in after to generate additional electricity to run the electric motors. According to Fisker’s website, the gas engine for the Karma hybrid powers the car for 250 miles, but such specs for Nina have not been disclosed.

Nina will be a bit more affordable than Karma, with pricing starting closer to $50,000 rather than $96,000 for a base model.
