Believe it or not, there is a classic Maserati out there that is actually affordable. A 1978 Maserati Merak SS is scheduled to hit the auction block at RM in Scottsdale next month, and could change hands for as little as $45,000.
This is a chance for a new collector to get their hands on a piece of Maserati history at a lower price than expected. Many classic models are undervalued on the market today, making them ideal to buy and hold onto for future profits. The Maserati Merak SS is a bit like the Delorean of “Back to the Future”, and could have a profitable future ahead of it.
This 1978 Maserati Merak SS is one of just 312 SS units created. It has been stateside since its birth, and is in original condition with just 15,000 miles claimed on the old odometer. The coat is Argento silver and the interior is blue.
The Merak SS packs the same 3.0-liter engine as the Citroën SM, which is good because those parts remain readily available in the U.S. Some of the most desirable Merak SS cars have traded in the low $30k range up through $50k. Later model Meraks like this 1978 SS are worth up to $60k. That seems to be a low cost to own and impress friends with a classic Maserati…or you could just drop a few hundred and rent the latest from Maserati at Imagine Lifestyles Luxury Rentals anytime.
