Another BMW i8 prototype has been spied, likely the 2015 version! The i8 began popping up back in 2009, and is certainly a work in progress that has somehow endured over the years. BMW has been using the i8 luxury car concept to demonstrate the possibilities of their unique LifeDrive architecture, which is a composite body/passenger cell mated to a powertrain unit.
BMW i8
The BMW “i” brand is tentatively scheduled to emerge in 2014, likely with 2015 models. The BMW i brand is a tech-intensive and eco-friendly take on the traditional luxury vehicle, priming it to compete with the luxury hybrids of the future (think Fisker Karma or even our Escalade hybrid rental).
As you can see from the leaked photos of the 2015 BMW i8, it appears to be a bit more production ready than its predecessors.
Placed behind the front end is the electric part of the i8’s plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is powered by a lithium-polymer battery pack located in what would usually be the transmission tunnel. Word is that the production BMW i8 will be able to travel around 20 miles in zero-emissions mode.
The BMW i8 is quite futuristic for the traditional yet techy brand
