John Travolta was enjoying a leisurely day of car shopping at a Santa Monica Jaguar dealership recently when a rather brazen thief made off with the star’s vintage 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL parked outside!

Travolta had only been inside the dealership for approximately 10 minutes before the luxury car heist occurred, in broad daylight! Incredibly, the incident unraveled in daytime, in Santa Monica, and there were absolutely no witnesses to the crime! This reminds me of Bijan’s Bugatti Veyron memorial because it was vandalized in broad daylight (follow link for full story on Bijan’s Bugatti).

The value of the vintage Mercedes is estimated at $50,000-$100,000. I doubt the actor will require a replacement luxury rental car while this mystery is solved, he also owns a Rolls Royce, Mercedes SL500, Jaguar XJ6 and a few other exotics.

According to Travolta,

"I have a ’55, ’56 and ’57 Thunderbird – American Fords in the great old tradition. I love the fact that they could achieve speed and distance with such style. I don’t use them for long journeys any more, but to just enjoy the drive."
