Robot Butlers Enhancing Luxury Hotel Service Standards?

How would you like a staff of robot butlers to serve you during your next hotel stay? That is a possibility when you choose the Aloft Hotel in Cupertino! While Japan and China may have a few working robots, they pale in comparison to A.L.O. Botlr, the robot butler setting a new precedent in California!
Watch the one minute clip above showing A.L.O Botlr in action. He is quite the cutie and I want one for the house!

A.L.O. Botlr robot butler is the creation of Savioke, a California-based venture funded by Google. The project is spearheaded by Steve Cousins and with all of the cool Google technology and resources–the hospitality industry may never be the same. *Cue Jetsons clip..

robot butlerOn a serious note, A.L.O. is simply adorable with a penguin-style black tie befitting a butler and a cute little touch screen face. He looms to a height of three feet and tips the scale at around 100 pounds. He has been engineered to “walk” at the pace of an average human and can even interact with staff and guests via his 7-inch touch screen. Look out, Siri.

What A.L.O Botlr can do:

  • Using 4G and WiFi he can call elevators to give himself a lift.
  • Because he cannot knock on a guests door, he calls their phone upon arrival. Robot butlers could be more polite than their human counterparts.
  • A.L.O. prefers a positive Tweet to a tip at hashtag#meetbotlr.
  • He is always in a good mood and eager to serve.

This robot was launched in August, and if the success continues there could soon be a fleet of them with permanent positions in the hotel. Brian McGuinness of Starwood’s Specialty Select Brands stated: “A.L.O. has the work ethic of Wall-E, the humor of Rosie from “The Jetsons” and reminds me of my favorite childhood robot, R2-D2.” I must go now, I need to make a reservation at Aloft Hotel..
