During the LA Auto Show this year, Steve Saleen surprised with the announcement that there will finally be a successor to the Saleen S7, which ran from 2000-2004. The new model will be named the Saleen S8 and it was designed to be competitive with the hypercars of today.

The glorious Saleen S7 looks outstanding in red. The scissor doors set off the decidedly sporty vibe of the car.

Steve Saleen delivered the following statement about the upcoming Saleen S8 supercar: “We haven’t forgotten about the supercar genre. We are working on what we will call the S8 and the continuation of the American supercar.” 

There should be no mix-ups between the Saleen S8 and the Audi S8. The S7 changed slightly each year while maintaining the signature styling cues that gained it popularity and praise.

Saleen did not exactly give up on creating a successor for its fabulous S7. In 2007, the Saleen S5S Raptor concept emerged. On the heels of the Raptor, Saleen took a break to form SMS Supercars and now is diving back into the Saleen supercars.

Saleen shared that the S8 will be superior to the S5S Raptor, which boasted a 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine releasing 650 horses. The Saleen S8 certainly must surpass that, with the S7 capable of churning out 750 horses with a variety of V8 options. Perhaps they should experiment with a specialized V10 like the Lexus LFA, which sounds like a V8 with the power of a V12.

More details on the next generation of Saleen supercars will roll out as the concept reaches more mature stages. We look forward to seeing both the aesthetics and what will be lurking beneath the hood!
