A free Lamborghini Murcielago was a dream-come-true for truck driver David Dopp, who won the “Joe Schmo to Lambo” contest at his local gas station in Utah. Thousands of people entered the competition to win the Lamborghini, and Dopp beat out the remaining 9 finalists at Lavelle Edwards Stadium for the win. That is where Dopp’s lucky streak ended.

A mere 6 hours after winning the green Lamborghini Murcielago, Dopp was giving rides to family and friends on slick icy roads when he lost control of the 640-horsepower supercar, careening into a field. The press following this exotic car crash has likely been embarrassing for Dopp, and while I would really love to feel sorry for the guy—who drives a Lamborghini on icy roadways? Excitement is understandable, but common sense must prevail.

The clincher: the car came with $5,000 worth of driving lessons from Miller Motorsports Park. Facepalm.

Dopp sheepishly explained,
“Yeah, I got it on Saturday and I wrecked it on Saturday. We were coming up a hill, going around a corner and as soon as we came up the hill, we either hit some black ice or loose gravel or something, and all of a sudden we just started spinning. We ended up in a field, and I back-ended a couple of fence posts.”

He went on to explain that he would be selling the Murcielago, as he cannot afford the insurance or taxes.
