New Engine Tweaks for the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte

While the official debut of the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte is not until January (Detroit Auto Show), welcome details are already leaking out! Maserati shared some photos of the new luxury sedan recently, but it is what will be lurking beneath the hood that has most interested! Rumors are circulating that new engine options will be offered with the next gen Quattroporte. Change is good, and more power is not just an option–it is a necessity to compete in the exotic auto arena.

The 2014 Quattroporte sedan blends sophistication with aggression, seamlessly.

Educated guesses can be made, no matter how tight-lipped Maserati may be about the powertrain. The new sedan is more elongated, which indicates an obvious boost in power will be necessary. Signs point to offerings of both a V6 and a V8 engine for the Quattroporte. Some auto blogs have ventured to nail down the actual specs, guessing it will boast a 3.0-liter aluminum block turbo-charged and direct-injected V6.

Fitted with a new Maserati-badged/Ferrari-sourced V8 that will send power to the rear wheels — or possibly even to all four wheels at some point in the future.

But wait…shouldn’t a Maserati have a V8? If that is the case, count on a 3.8-liter aluminum block, also turbo-charged and direct injected. The 2013 V8 is a 4.2-liter, though it is on the heavier side at 4,387 pounds. The new model will shave off the lb’s for its debut, which will obviously assist in the power department. Newer materials, like carbon-fiber blends, are enabling exotic cars to drop weight without sacrificing in other departments.
