Land Rover is changing things up in the power department for the 2014 Range Rover, trading in the usual V8 for a supercharged V6. The flagship luxury SUV will only drop 35 horses in the transition (from the 2013 V8), and improve on fuel economy.
There will also be an even more potent V8 version offered for 2014, to prevent any friction on the market. Let’s compare the options:

With all of the new rules and regulations coming into effect, it is vital that buyers of luxury brands are given options. The 2014 Range Rover is approximately 15% more fuel efficient than its predecessor, thanks to a slight power reduction and a 700-pound weight drop. The new figures boast a 16/22-mpg city/highway ratio, which is 2 miles per gallon better than the old V8. Thinking of the 189 mile per gallon 2014 Audi RS7, Land Rover’s new figures fail to dazzle. Adding to the fuel economy improvement is a new intelligent stop/start system that reduces idling and reduces emissions.
But will they buy it?
Land Rover feels that despite a reduction in torque and power, buyers will not be disappointed because they will be getting the same extreme, off-roading luxury beasts. The Range Rover boasts tilt angles of up to 45 degrees, 7,716 pound towing capacity, and a wading depth of around 36 inches. Just try to do any of that in a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
