Gumpert Apollo S and Explosion Models Live in Geneva

German luxury automaker Gumpert surprised the crowds at the Geneva Motor Show by touting their ill-fated Apollo S alongside a new model, the Explosion. The Gumpert Apollo S drove the boutique brand into bankruptcy, though it appears they are revving up for a healthy recovery. Gumpert

Gumpert bounces back from insolvency with a set of shiny red exotic sports cars. Meet the new Explosion and the dressed up Apollo S. The Explosion is pictured above.

The Gumpert Apollo S on display in Geneva boasted a loud red coat with industrial silver accents, possibly brushed aluminum. The new specimen, the Gumpert Explosion, has piqued interest in the automotive community. Aptly named, the brand hopes to explode back onto the scene with the new car and upgraded versions of past models. In fact, orders are already being taken for the Explosion at $145,000 a pop.

GumpertCan you see which brand inspired the Explosion?

The Gumpert Explosion at a glance:

  • Based on the Audi TT platform, the Explosion packs a 4.2-liter V8 engine from Audi.
  • Total output is between 650 and 800 horsepower, depending on the desired performance package.
  • The bare-bones option is a turbocharged 4-cylinder pushing out 420 horses to all four wheels.
  • Lightweight carbon fiber chassis paired with aluminum and fiberglass body.

GumpertThe Gumpert Apollo S supercar has had better coats. The mirror effect does little for the model.

Fun fact: Roland Gumpert used to head up operations at Audi’s rally operations in the 1980s. The Explosion is quite an attractive ride and will be poised to directly compete with some very established brands with similar offerings. How will Gumpert fare this year? Will a few select people purchase the Apollo S and then an Explosion to serve as their daily driver?
