It appears that Land Rover is working on a big brother to its little Range Rover Evoque. What is thought to be the 2015 Land Rover Freelander has been spied testing in full camo–and speculation is raging out of control due to its seemingly larger size. So has Land Rover been sizing up competition to determine that size does matter?
The potential next generation was caught on the streets. Thoughts?
Back in the 1990s, market research indicated that Land Rover could enter the compact SUV arena. Since that time, different variations of the Land Rover Freelander have emerged. The current version is offered in both 2 and 4-wheel drive and known as the LR2 here in North America and the Freelander 2 in Europe. Now recall the diminutive Range Rover Evoque, impossibly tiny and adorable. Enter the 2015 sibling.
The Land Rover spotted testing in Germany is bigger and seems to be enduring a complete overhaul. While it is obviously influenced by the swanky Evoque and its predecessors–check out the roofline, tailgate mounted spoiler and dual exhaust. Will the next generation of Land Rover Range Rover SUVs be less boxy? They have been gradually reshaping into a smoother body, but will that serve as a turn-off for long-term buyers who prefer to think inside the box?
2015 Land Rover Freelander?
As this model is a mere concept in testing form, no official specs can be expected short of the Geneva Auto Show in all likelihood. Some guess that in spite of its larger size, it could be fitted with the same engine as the Evoque. Whatever ends up occurring, it will certainly be interesting!
