Do you have an affinity for extremely speedy and luxuriously appointed exotic cars loaded with carbon fiber and awesomeness? The 2012 Audi R8 GT packs it all and then some. Audi of America has released the delicious details about the GT version of the illustrious R8, topped-off with a price tag of $196,800, indicating that it intends to be a top player in the luxury car world.
Only 333 of these luxury beasts will be produced, with a mere 90 of them for the U.S. market. The R8 GT would make a fabulous addition to any fleet of luxury car rentals especially in a fleet of Los Angeles exotic rental cars, and would also look quite fab in my garage.
The basic Audi R8 starts at around $114,200, so the GT version is about $82,600 more, which can only mean it is much improved. The R8 GT boasts a modified version of the standard R8 5.2-liter 10-cylinder engine, producing 35 more horsepower. That does not seem like a large enough power increase to warrant such a price increase. The engine is paired with a sequential transmission called the R tronic, allowing for speeds of 199 miles per hour and a 0-60 jump in 3.6 seconds.
The lightweight physique of the Audi R8 GT has many carbon fiber components, including the rear hatch, diffuser and spoiler. The integration of carbon fiber helped the GT version to slim down by 180 pounds compared to the R8 coupe 5.8 Quattro.
While the price tag may seem high, it is relatively low when compared to other carbon-heavy luxury cars like the $379,700 Lamborghini Aventador and the $1.6 million Pagani Huayra. For more on the Lamborghini Aventador, follow link!
