The new Lamborghini LP 560-4 has certainly given gearheads much to talk about.  It is a truly striking and awe inspiring exotic car.  Let’s see how it stacks up to its predecessor, the Gallardo SE.

The Lamborghini Gallardo SE came out with an upgraded chassis designed for the racetrack, modified gears for improved speed and acceleration and aggressive wheels.  It boasts 520 horsepower from a V10 DOHC engine and a 6-speed manual AWD transmission.  The lines are classic and obvious Lamborghini and it is an ideal luxury car rental.

Now that the 2010 Gallardo LP 560-4 has been released (and of course added to our fleet of exotic rental cars), it is always interesting to see how new models stack up against previous models.  The name 560-4 is derived from the horsepower, which is slightly more than the Gallardo SE, 40 more horses to be exact.

The 2010 Gallardo 560-4 is the brand’s new “entry level” Lamborghini coupe.  It continues the traditional Lamborghini experience in full, with the telltale sleek lines and body, with a few tweaks.  The engine is a 5.2-liter V10 versus the Gallardo SE’s 5.0-liter V10.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 can hit the 0-62 mark in 3.7 seconds, and sprint to 124 miles per hour in just 11.8 seconds-it is a staggeringly speedy luxury rental car.  As I mentioned previously, the “560” portion indicates the horsepower, but the “4” is meant to communicate that it is all wheel drive.

The 2010 Gallardo also has the all-new “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” direct injection system.  With increased power output, it also manages to be green, with lower CO2 emissions and improved fuel consumption.  CO2 emissions were reduced by a staggering 18 percent in the new Lamborghini.

Other changes include a completely redesigned automated e-gear transmission, reducing gear change time by 40%, which is huge.  The driver has complete control, choosing between five different driving and changing programs.
So at the end of the day, the Lamborghini Gallardo SE will always be a fabulous car, but the 2010 Gallardo 560-4 shows us that the luxury car brand continues to improve upon perfection and that we can expect great things in the future.
