The Lamborghini Urus could break new ground for the Raging Bull by becoming the first-ever model to offer a turbo option. While previously uninspired by incorporating turbo technology, it seems that Lamborghini is contemplating the perks of utilizing it in the Urus SUV. The end result would be the company’s very first turbo, which is certainly quite exciting!

Fans of turbocharging know that the technology is a bit of an addiction. For that reason, the turbo Lamborghini Urus could be the gateway drug to a new outlook on what belongs under the hood of the entire future of the brand. Ok, perhaps the dreamer in me is getting a touch carried away, but turbocharged Lamborghinis are currently only available from high-performance after market tuners. It would be interesting to see what the engineers at Lamborghini could produce within their budget and skillset.

In its most basic form, the Lamborghini Urus SUV is a crossover. Introduced in concept form at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, the Urus shares a platform with the next-gen Porsche Cayenne and the VW Toureg. The Audi Q7 could offer a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 option, something that could easily be tweaked to make the Lamborghini Urus an amazing beast.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann recently told AE that “An SUV could be a turbo engine for the first time for us.” This bold statement comes just a couple of years after Winkelmann shrugged off the idea of creating turbo engines in its supercars. Back then he stated that he did not see it happening in the near future, if ever. Times change and it is actually a good thing that Lamborghini is not a stubborn brand and remains open to new possibilities regardless of previous notions. It will be interesting to see if a turbocharged Lamborghini Urus emerges, and if that leads to more potent Bulls rolling directly off of the production line.
