Maybe it is the way it looks drenched in seductive red, or maybe it is just that it is a Mercedes-Benz, but the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic is one sexy lady. If the goal was to create a luxury SUV with the look and feel of a coupe—it was certainly achieved flawlessly.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe concept first emerged at the Beijing Auto Show, and the evolution of that into the GLE 450 AMG is striking. Combining the perks of an SUV with the more appealing and sporty looks of a coupe is a practice that seems to be increasing in popularity across the automaking grid. It gives buyers the best of both worlds, looks and performance, all in one tight little package. 
The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic at a glance:
- This model is packing a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine pushing forth 362 horses onto the pavement. That translates to 384 pound-feet of torque with peak performance at 1,400 rpm.
- Driver-focused Mercedes-Benz has included special drive modes for the GLE AMG as follows: Comfort, Slippery, Sport and Sport+.
- These modes are part of an intricate Dynamic Select rotary controlling system. Chassis, powertrain and steering are controlled as usual, but factor in engine sounds and driving lights and the picture becomes even better.
- The special coupe/SUV mix is but the first of more to come. The model is intended to gear up excitement and emotions for the future performance-driven ideas that will be emerging.
Overall, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic should hit the scene by the Detroit show next year. We look for a base model, diesel offering, regular variants and a high-performance frontrunner to form the fleet.
