Following the typical span of fevered rumors and spinning wheels, Porsche CEO Mattias Muller has ended the misery of speculation! Muller has confirmed the next Porsche 961 supercar, to be placed between the 911 GT2 RS and the upcoming 918 spyder. Watch out, Ferrari 458 Italia, this certainly smells like competition!
This could completely change the future landscape of Porsche
While Muller did not exactly spill the entire name, all signs point to a glorious new 961 Porsche supercar. The biggest hint is that it carries the codename project 960. The name is of less importance than the body and what will be hiding under the hood, however.

The design language should communicate a nod to the future and revised 911. It will be built on Volkswagen Group’s new Mimo platform and is rumored to feature no cues from the 918 spyder aside from a bit of technology and a carbon-reinforced plastic monocoque chassis.
Some feared the new 961 would feature blend of the futuristic 918 spyder and the Panamera Sport Turismo concept. The Panamara part induced cringes.
Rather than a V8, rumors suggest the next 961 Porsche will pack a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter boxer engine kicking out 600bhp and 550 lb-ft of torque. Expect a coupe and convertible versions with prices starting close to $300,000 up to $400k.
