Porsche selected the eve of the Los Angeles Auto Show to reveal the latest in the lineup: the Porsche Macan SUV. Based on the Audi Q5 platform, this little luxury SUV is packing in the power arena and offering three package options.
The Porsche Macan SUV will start rolling off the assembly line in 2014 as one of the more economical options.
There will be 3 versions of the Porsche Macan offered, all with V6 engines mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox:
- The base will be the Porsche Macan S. This is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged crossover capable of hitting the 60-mile per hour mark in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 158. The optional Sport Chrono package will shave that down to 5.2 seconds.
- Second is the Macan S Diesel model. It also has a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo but is powered by diesel fuel. This one hits the 60 mark in 6.3 seconds (6.1 with the Sport Chrono package). Max speed for the diesel version is 143 miles per hour.
- The line-topper is the Porsche Macan Turbo. This is the most powerful, packing a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 kicking out 400 horses. It achieves the 0-60 sprint in 4.8 seconds, 4.6 with the Chrono package. Top speed is 165 miles per hour for this version.
Porsche Macan SUV looks proportional at every angle while maintaining the signature Porsche styling cues.
Word is that a new base model may emerge later, featuring a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo producing 280 horses and another Macan diesel option with a 2.0-liter. These are likely geared toward those adamant about reducing fuel costs and preserving the environment and would mark the first 4-cylinder Porsche offerings since the 968 back in 1995.
