SSC Tuatara Prototype Speed Testing

Shelby Super Cars (SSC) has certainly been busy! The video below shows the latest from the brand, the SSC Tuatara prototype speed testing! I need for this model to make it past luxury concept car and reach production, competition is always good!

Shelby released the video to drum up some hype and excitement for the car, an Ultimate Aero prototype (so you know it is damn fast!).

The car nailed some 0-200 mph sprints on a wide-open American roadway, allowing engineers to perfect and test gear ratio specs on the transmission and really open her up under real conditions. SSC also created the Ultimate Aero, which held the Guinness Book of World Records title as the fastest production car in the world, a title it lost in 2010 to the Bugatti Veyron. The Ultimate Aero’s top speed was 256.19 mph, but the Ultimate Aero II hit 274 (a record that was never verified, which may explain the emerging Tuatara car, a thirst for revenge!).

Spectators at Pebble Beach loved the design of the Tuatara

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport hits 267 miles per hour, so SSC need only improve over 11 miles per hour to compete adequately, but they must prove it.

According to SSC,
"Testing showed that 2nd gear starts achieved the best test results as SSC averaged 6 individual 0-200 mph test runs, each unofficially clocked under 16 seconds. SSC was surprised at how quickly the Ultimate Aero reached 200 mph, but more importantly the team has now determined what they feel is the perfect gear ratios for the new 7-speed Tuatara transmission."

I would just bet that Bugatti is busy perfecting their gear ratio as you read this….
