New luxury car brands have a tough road to travel, literally. Competing with established brands like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin and the like require just as much compelling marketing endeavors as quality cars! Enter McLaren.
McLaren will be launching its first model, as I have previously covered, the MP4-12C sports car, next month at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Prior to the Pebble Beach show, it will be seen this month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, for the antsy types.
The difference between McLaren and other rookies, you ask? The answer is simple-millions already know the name McLaren and associate it with luxury cars and Formula 1 racing, as they have a strong and successful racing team.
While the company is new to the United States, McLaren is based in England and responsible for the McLaren F1, the street-legal supercar of the 1990s. They also still hold the record for the fastest car with normal aspiration (without turbo or superchargers). You could say McLaren has been on the right track.
Other McLaren endeavors include the jointly developed Mercedes Benz SLR that ran from 2003-2009. Mercedes owned around 40% of McLaren Group during those years. The North American subsidiary is based in Manhattan, with a nationwide network of dealers.
Look for models like the McLaren SLR, the McLaren Roadster, the 722, the Stirling Moss and of course the McLaren MP4-12C that cuts 592 horsepower with a V8!
