The 2015 Macan will be the first production 4-cylinder Porsche from the brand since 1995. The company has rolled out the next generation of the Macan somewhat quietly, perhaps because the 4-cylinder option may not be available in America.
There will be a 4-cylinder variant of the Porsche Macan only available in Europe. It is the first 4-banger since 1995 from the company.
The 2015 Porsche Macan with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is going to be offered in the UK and possibly other locations overseas, while a turbocharged V6 can be expected Stateside. The usual suspects should be offered for the fleet–including the Porsche Macan, Macan S, Macan Turbo and perhaps a Macan S Diesel.
Just like its siblings, the 4-cylinder Porsche Macan will come with standard all wheel drive and a Porsche seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. So far, the only 2015 models Stateside are the Macan S and the Macan Turbo. The specifications are below:
- Twin turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine
- AWD
- Integrated dry sump
- Steel and aluminum chassis
The Macan Turbo
- Twin turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine
- AWD
- Special turbo wheels and various other tweaks
For those curious, this is said to be a separate 4-cylinder engine than the one being created for the new Porsche Boxter and Caymans. It is loosely based on Audi Q5’s 2.0-liter TFSI. That is a fact that the engineers work hard to separate, as they have no desire to have the two seen as the same thing. The inline 4-banger produces 237 horses in the Macan and achieves a 0-60 mile per hour jump of 6.9 seconds with an overall top speed of around 138 MPH. The Euro version lacks quad-pipes in favor of dual-exhaust tips and is perched seductively on 18-inch alloys.
Word is that Porsche will deliver an additional four-cylinder Macan in diesel form, and it will also not be visiting us in America.
