Peugeot is back on the exotic car scene with its latest inspiration: The Peugeot Exalt concept. While this lady appears to be a long-legged BMW i8 blended with an Audi R8, she is a fierce peek at what the future of the marquee may hold. What is even more interesting is that you may want to pet her.
The Peugeot Exalt concept at a glance:
- The two-tone exterior is predominantly bare steel, tapering off in the rear to a material that some say feels like sharkskin. It is a special textured material and I want to pet it.
- The overall theme of steel and grainy wood feels luxe-industrial, if that is even a thing. It certainly gets more hipster points than the Prius, because the exquisite looking wood lining the cabin is actually repurposed newspapers. If that is not enough to turn the granola types on, there is an electric scooter tucked under the boot floor. You know, for extremely fast James Bond-esque escapes during rush hour traffic.
- Power is derived from a dainty 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-banger paired with an electric drive system. The end result are 340 healthy horses driving all four wheels.
- The way the engineers approached the cockpit controls is fascinating. Because the human brain can easily memorize up to seven items, the dials are arranged into smaller group clusters. Drivers do not want to be bothered with thinking while driving, they are much too busy watching Netflix. That was sarcasm, they are all occupied propping up their inflatable passengers to merge into the commuter lanes.
The stylish cockpit is modern chic meets “I am a pilot”.
Is that grainy wood really repurposed newspaper? If so, is it durable? So many questions.
We will see more of the lovely Peugeot Exalt concept at the Paris Auto Show in October.
