It seems that luxury car leaders like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus and more are being beaten out in the mobile connectivity arena by the more standard autos. Ford, Hyundai and Kia have ranked higher in terms of mobile technology than their ultra-luxe counterparts.
Ford Sync Connectivity
This is certainly surprising, because luxury cars are intended to provide all creature comforts and amenities. Today, interior amenities in a luxury car go far beyond exclusive leathers and veneers, and extend to smartphone connectivity and other areas. Technology is king, especially mobile technology. Carmakers are expected to pull out all stops, even luxury rental cars are generally packing current technology.
Don’t worry; the luxury brands are heading in the right direction to catch up with the likes of Ford (Yeah, that just sounds so strange to say!). BMW has announced a connectivity system for the 5-Series sedan, acknowledging the importance of such systems.
Mercedes has released Internet access in some of its luxury vehicles and Lexus also has an online system now, but it was Ford’s Sync, Hyundai and Kia models that captivated the tech-savvy drivers and buyers at the New York Auto Show this year, shocking many.
Technology is a competitive advantage that the luxury brands will likely continue to pursue seriously, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the near future!
