The 2013 Geneva Motor Show showcased many fine specimens of exotic cars this year, like the Aston Martin Rapide S. The Rapide S has made important changes from the standard Rapide in a move the brand hopes will place the model among its intended market niche. Is this a step in the direction of a more versatile Aston Martin fleet?
The Aston Martin Rapide did not become the brand’s Panamera. Will the Rapide S?
The Aston Martin Rapide S still features four doors, but an increase in power and more pronounced features may make it more palatable. Under the hood is the heavily revised 6.0-liter V12 from the Vanquish. This engine produces 550 horsepower with a top speed of around 190 miles per hour, a full 17% increase over the standard Rapide.
Rapide S specs:
- All alloy, quad overhead camshaft
- Front mid-mounted engine
- Rear wheel drive
- Max torque: 457 ft at 5,500 rpm
- Fully catalyzed stainless steel exhaust system with active bypass valves
The exaggerated grille will not please everyone, but it is among the tweaks. Overall, the Rapide S is an improvement. There are 80 more hoses and it even boasts better fuel economy than its standard sibling, with an impressive 19 mile per gallon average.
The standard Aston Martin Rapide. Are the new changes obvious or subtle?
