The updated R8 for 2012 will feature Audi’s MMI infotainment system (seen in the A6, A7 and A8 models). The 6-speed single-clutch automated transmission will be switched in favor of a 7-speed dual-clutch unit and horsepower will rise from 525 to 540. Luxury hybrid technology is on the rise, and rumors are circulating that there may be a limited edition electric version of the Audi R8 emerging in late 2012.

All of this evolution and modification on the R8 are in preparation for a new 2014 version. Practice makes perfect, so the tweaking will likely ensure an even better Audi R8 in the coming years. Some auto blogs are saying that the distinctive R8 side blades are slated to vanish in favor of a sleeker appearance, I feel that would be a shame and a huge mistake.

Following in the tracks of some supercars, the 2014 R8 may drop the option for a manual transmission (think Lamborghini drops manual transmissions). To help transition smoothly, techy perks will be added like a head-up display and variable intensity LED head lighting.
