Mercedes-Benz took advantage of the 2013 Los Angeles Motor show to reveal its latest hand—a handful of stunning cars and concepts including the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG. Other models on stage included the SLS AMG GT Final Edition, the S 65 AMG and the AMG Vision Gran Turismo.
While the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG is just a show vehicle for now, it represents a bold new direction for what a sporty luxury SUV could be in the near future. The GLA 45 AMG concept offers the space and some of the size of an SUV without losing its sports car inspired edge.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG concept at a glance:
- It holds a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine kicking out a surprising 360 horses.
- The 0-60 mile per hour jump is achieved in less than 5 seconds.
- 4Matic AWD system and AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission.
- Fuel consumption is said to be more gentle than most.
The front features all work together to effortlessly create an appealing face. There does not appear to be a design cue that feels out of place on this model. Mercedes-Benz chairman of the board of management released the following statement regarding the GLA 45 AMG: “With the Concept GLA 45 AMG, we are setting a stake firmly in the ground of the strongly growing market segment of compact SUVs. Our customers – a young target group who set great store by styling, dynamism and independence – can now start looking forward to a dynamic high-performance car. The most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system add up to make the Concept GLA 45 AMG a unique proposition.”
Hopefully the production version looks nearly identical to the GLA 45 AMG concept.
