Mercedes has once again outdone itself with the creation of the special edition SLS AMG GT3 racer! This special edition Mercedes Benz was made to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the very first SL car. The clincher: There can be only 5. That is a good indicator that it will not join our lineup of SLS AMG rentals.

The  Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 Special Edition 

As is the typical tradition for a special edition car, there will be a very limited production run of just five cars. Each of the five SLS AMG GT3 cars will be hand crafted in Affalterbach and come with a special magno graphite matte paint over carbon fiber bodywork. Who does not love a good matte, but why cover the raw carbon fiber guys?

The Mercedes racer dons a composite hood, trunk, aero work and doors, and even manages to dazzle in the cockpit! The cockpit features a full race cage and hot carbon shell seating. The dashboard and console sport a matte carbon-fiber finish.

While the outside is certainly glorious, it is what is under the hood that interests serious speed demons. Each of the five cars will get a 6.2-liter V8 hand fitted by Bernd Schneider personally (and an AMG tech).

Schneider carried out most of the development testing of the SLS AMG GT3 and has won the DTM championship three times.

Buyers will receive their vehicles at a handover ceremony in Affalterbach, which includes a full factory tour by Schneider himself.

Another eye-catching feature is the striking “45 Years of Driving Performance” logo framed in silver on the GT3 racing car’s gullwing doors.
