The Mondrian Hotel South Beach-Strange Logo, Savvy Digs

Mondrian Hotel Room ViewMondrian Hotel LogoEveryone knows that Imagine Lifestyles is the source for all that is South Florida luxury, and we love to tell our devoted readers everything about our experiences in dining, driving, and upscale hotels in our area.  Recently, we stayed at the stunning Mondrian Hotel South Beach to attend the official North American Introduction for the Lexus LFA supercar.

Guests of the Mondrian are greeted by a most unusual sight upon entering the lobby-the logo of the hotel.  This does not seem unusual to those who have not encountered the bubble-faced woman-child with diMondrian Hotel PoolMondrian Hotel Spalated pupils, who hovers alarmingly on stark white walls.  The logo appears quite large in the lobby, and in scaled down versions in each of the rooms (see photos).

The logo was quite the conversation piece during the Lexus event, and rumors included the idea that she is a sea goddess designed to add to the undersea palace theme of the Mondrian.  Does anyone know the true origin?

Moving past the logo, guests will then see the grand staircase.  The grand staircase is the main attraction in the lobby area, spiraling up between the “Sunset Lounge” and “Asia de Cuba”, the Mondrian’s exquisite dining setting.

Just beyond the grand staircase is the opening to the posh pool deck area, which overlooks the Miami skyline over the intercoastal waterway.  The pool deck features two pools and no shortage of large cabanas, oriental rugs and pillows tossed about for lounging.  The views from the pool are incredible, and the comfort level could not be higher.

Up next is the Agua Spa, located on the 3rd floor of the Mondrian (see photo).  Walking through the door of the spa is like entering a meticulously white oasis, instantly relaxing and soothing.  Guests go to the spa for any treatment they desire, in privacy and style.

Finally, to the accommodations.  My room at the Mondrian was fresh and modern, with just the right touches for luxury without being overdone.  The fresh white linens and inviting splashes of color were hip and confident.  A fun touch in the water closet was the chandelier showerhead, from which the water flowed out.

Overall, I recommend the Mondrian to those who are in search of fancy digs with an air of privacy.  The Sunset Lounge is a great way to unwind during your stay, and there are a plethora of nearby South Beach clubs, restaurants and shopping options.  By the way, an exotic rental car is a must-you definitely want to arrive in style.
