A Peek Inside Iron Man’s Garage, the Audi R8 and More!

Audi is not only a super sophisticated luxury car, it is apparently also one with an attitude, as was made apparent by the Audi R8 being selected to appear in the highly anticipated “Ironman” movie.  Ahh…gearheads and geeks alike will be clamoring see the remake of this classic film with a comic strip background.

Yes, just a few days ago it was announced that the luxury carmaker would be supplying cars for the Iron Man movie.  Billionaire industrialist Tony Stark will be making many jealous by both his arsenal of luxury cars, and steaming sidekicks Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson.  Oh Tony…how we envy you, buddy.  So without further ado, let’s take a peek inside Iron Man Tony Stark’s garage, which is host to five fabulous exotic cars:  a 1932 Ford Flathead Roadster, a 1967 Shelby Cobra, a Saleen S7, a 2008 AuAudi R8 in Ironman II di R8 and a Tesla Roadster prototype.

First up is the 2008 Audi R8.  In the movie, Stark drives the R8, and it seems to be his go-to and favorite car for daily driving.  The cool part is that the light-up engine resembles the glowing circle in Stark’s chest, a fact that the production team must have intended.   Audi will be gaining much publicity for this model; it was a savvy move on their part.  Specs of this exotic Audi include a mid-mounted 4.2-liter V8 engine that kicks out 420 horsepower, with a top speed of around 187 miles per hour.  Just your everyday grocery-getter for ole’ Stark.  It hits the 0-60 mark in about 4.6 seconds and features an aluminum and magnesium space frame, very cool.

The 1932 Ford Flathead Roadster is among the lineup in Ironman.  These are fantastic cars, also known as “Deuces”.  They have been modified many times, and thus the specs vary greatly.  In general, you can expect a Ford Flathead to have a 221-ci V8 engine capable of producing 85 horsepower.  The hot-rod style Flathead bodies are generally composed of fiberglass or steel.

The 1967 Shelby Cobra receives the blunt end of a crash landing in the film, causing gearheads everywhere to cringe.  This classic car features a front-mounted 7-liter V8 engine producing 427 horsepower (now that’s a Ironman 2 the Movielittle more like it, the Ford Flathead falls short in the horsepower department).  The Shelby hits the 0-60 mark in about 4.5 seconds, and features an aluminum body over a tubular frame.

Next is the Saleen S7, with its road-hugging curvy silhouette and flashy orange exterior.  This car does not get much screen-time in Ironman, but is pretty enough to be memorable (maybe next year, young starlet).  Specs of the Saleen S7 (follow link for more information) include an all-aluminum 7-liter rear-mounted V8 engine that boasts 750 horsepower.  If you are not drooling yet, it hits the 0-60 mark in 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of around 200 miles per hour.  This is a car worthy of 007 himself.

Finally, the Tesla Roadster prototype.  This popular luxury car was still in the development phase when Tony Stark had his.  He is just that enviable (though we can think of a few more exotic cars to complete this rather weak collection).  Specs of the Tesla include a 248 horsepower electric motor; we suppose Tony has a green side.  It hits the 0-60 mark in a surprising 4 seconds with a range of 220 miles and can be recharged in 3 and a half hours or so.  We are sure he can just drive the Audi R8 while it is charging.
