Rolls Royce has announced that it will bring back the Wraith. This news has been met with some wrath, but mostly excitement. You will have the opportunity to form your own opinion quite soon, as the new Rolls Royce Wraith could debut as early as the 2013 Geneva Motor Show this March!
The Wraith teaser photo
There has not been a Rolls Royce Wraith model since the Silver Wratih ceased production back in 1959. The new version is said to be a coupe version of the popular Rolls Royce Ghost. The key difference, aside from fewer doors, will be in the power arena. The Wraith is no waif, with a potential 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 petrol engine tuned up to 600 horsepower. This is all heresay until the official word, of course.
Some murmurings claim the Wraith will have an overall length of 5200mm with a wheelbase 180mm shy of the 4-door Ghost. This is rumored to be the most powerful and dynamic model ever launched by the luxury marquee, most famous for its chauffeur-friendly fare.
In announcing plans for the introduction of the Wraith at dealer conference in London, England, Rolls-Royce’s chief executive officer, Torsten Muller-Otvos stated: “Rolls-Royce Wraith will draw superlatives when it is unveiled in Geneva. Expect the boldest design, the most dramatic performance and the most powerful Rolls-Royce that has ever played host to the famous Spirit of Ecstasy figurine.”
Spy shots of the Wraith
Sales of the Wraith will begin in the fourth quarter, indicating it will likely list as a 2014 model. We expect additional teasers released just prior to the March 5th press day for the Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned!
The clip above shows some spy footage of the Rolls Royce Wraith prototype lapping the Nurburgring during testing. Is it a bit odd to see a grand touring car hitting the Nurburgring?
