Rumors exploded over the past few months that the Maserati Levante concept would be built on a Jeep platform. While some were stoked about the possibilities, they will not come to pass on a Jeep chassis regardless of the parent relations between Fiat and Chrysler. The Maserati Levante SUV will instead sit on the new Quattroporte/Ghibli architecture.

Fiat SpA (proud owner of Maserati and others) is also building the Maserati Levante SUV by 2015, which will assist in this endeavor. It is projected that the brand will enjoy an eightfold sales increase over a 3-year cycle thanks to the addition of the Ferrari-powered sedan and first-ever SUV.

The much-discussed Jeep-based Maserati SUV has finally emerged in production form! Maserati took full advantage of this year’s Detroit Auto Show and Paris Auto Show to tout the new Levante SUV. The awkward ‘Kubang’ name was dropped in favor of ‘Levante’, but it is still based on a Jeep SUV platform.
