Thirsty Aston Martin Slapped with Gas-Guzzling Penalty

The 2011 Aston Martin V12 Vantage is a rare British luxury sports car attached to a royal price tag, and it is thirsty!  This exotic car was slapped with a $3,000 gas-guzzling penalty for its 11-mile per gallon city and 17-highway habit.  And the price?  That will just be $194,000, thanks.

This unquenchable thirst for fuel stems from a 5.9-liter V12 engine pushing out 510 horsepower with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

So calling all luxury cars and exotic rental cars producing less than 400 horsepower…you are not a supercar…I’ve driven stock Mustangs with more kick.  Not to be nasty, but competition in the exotic car industry is nasty, and those over the six-figure marker really need more than 500 horses to attract buyers to the gate.

A departure from the more diminutive Aston Martin V8 Vantage rental, and the exclusive Aston Martin One-77 (of which only 77 units will be produced), the Aston Martin V12 Vantage pounds the competition in the power department.  The Vantage V8 had a mere 420 horses, so 510 in the V12 Vantage will rev more engines on the market.

The Aston Martin V12 Vantage includes other luxury upgrades, like carbon-ceramic brakes, a lowered body and the ability to corner like it is on rails (Shameless “Pretty Woman” quote about the Lotus).

Comparable luxury cars include the Ferrari 458 Italia at $231,000, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 at $208,000, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG at $186,000 and the Porsche 911 Turbo at $136,450.  (Follow links to see our rentals for a much lower investment!)
